1 Peter Chapter 1 - Study Questions

OK, here's the list of questions for Saturday's study. As you can see there's quite a few, so we're going to have to hustle to get through them. 1 Peter 1: 3-25

Verses 3-9

1)What cause do the exiles in verse 1 have for praise and thanksgiving?
2)If you were to outline from verses 3-5 what the Bible teaches about salvation, what would you include?
3) What mention of things past, present and future is made in verses 3-9, and how can understanding these help us today?
4) If you only knew verses 1-9, what would you know about Jesus Christ?

Verses 10-21
5) What is the good news and how did Peter's readers hear it? how did you hear it?
6) Why, do you think, does Peter include the parenthetical section (verse 10-12)? Does it inlfuence your own attitude towards the Old Testament?
7) "Holy" means different or separate from ordinary things and dedication to sacred use. "holiness" is a term for moral excellence and moral perfection of God. Given this, what does it mean for you to be "Holy"?
8) What basic reason is given for Christians to be holy?
9) What was the price of salvation? Why is it appropriate to remind these Christians of the cost of the salvation immediately after the call to live a holy life?
10) In what or whom are your faith and hope put? How would you prove this, if you were called upon to do so?

Verses 22-25
11) What is the emphasis of these verses? What is to characterize the interpersonal relationships of Christian believers?
12) What do these verses reveal about the Word of Gof? What practical difference should this make in your life?
13) According to this first chapter, what is the gospel?
14) Trace the idea of hope through the chapter. What reasons for hope would a Christian have, and how can we share this hope with others?
